Our Vision: A world where nature thrives.

We are a leading Australia Pacific not-for-profit public interest law practice. We protect peoples, nature and our climate through law. We value our deep connection to communities and places. We provide access to justice, empower communities and drive the systems change necessary to achieve a world where nature thrives.

EDO CULTURAL STRATEGIC OBJECTIVE

A thriving EDO

EDO is a proud community legal centre, committed to active engagement with communities in place and to an internal culture where people are respected and valued. In reimagining what is possible, we strive to create an environment of continuous learning, collaboration, and creativity. Underpinning this, EDO’s culture is characterised by transparency, accountability, efficiency, diversity and cultural inclusion and safety.

LAW & POLICY REFORM PUBLIC INTEREST

Advocating for reform

Underlying systems, structures and laws – across our areas of expertise – that cause injustice, intergenerational inequity and see humans living out of harmony with nature are reformed to reflect multiple planetary crises currently in effect. Our experiences with communities inform our thought and reform leadership allowing us to advocate for important reforms in the public interest of communities and nature.

Thematic Areas of Expertise

A safe climate

Climate laws have integrity, ensure accountability for climate action and align to internationally agreed targets. Communities are empowered to participate in decisions that shape our collective climate future and there are strong safeguards against misinformation in respect of climate impacts and responses are evidence based and enforceable.

Healthy Ecosystems and No Extinctions

Biodiversity laws are strong and effective, preventing extinctions and key drivers of ecosystem destruction on the land, in the water and in the ocean. Governments and corporations are accountable for biodiversity losses and laws are enforced to prevent extinctions

Supporting water justice

There is equitable access to sufficient quantities and quality of pollution free freshwater for communities to live well, and for First Nations and Indigenous peoples to maintain cultural responsibilities.

Defending Cultural Heritage

First Nations and Indigenous communities are supported in defining, preserving and protecting their cultural heritage as they deem fit.
