Submission on the Draft Threatened Species Strategy (Lutruwita/Tasmania)
The Tasmanian government is remaking its Threatened Species Strategy for the first time since 2000. The new Strategy, and accompanying Prioritisation Framework and Implementation Plan, are being developed in the context of a global extinction crisis, and with over 650 threatened animal and plant species in Lutruwita/Tasmania.
This represents a rare opportunity for the Tasmanian government to modernise its approach to threatened species protection using Australian standards and international best practice appropriate to the challenge we are facing. EDO is calling for a strengthened regulatory framework that is used effectively to protect and recover threatened species.
