Environmental Defenders Office (EDO) welcomes the opportunity to make a submission on the “Draft Expectations for Data Centres and AI Infrastructure Developers” (Draft Expectations) released by the Tasmanian Government in September 2026.

Our submission provides general commentary regarding the issues raised in the Draft Expectations, including responses to consultation questions insofar as they are relevant to our areas of expertise.

We have recently published our submission to the Parliamentary Inquiry into AI Data Centres in Lutruwita (Tasmania), our submission to the Senate inquiry into artificial intelligence (AI) and data centres, and EDO principles on data centre developments in Australia.
