Environmental Defenders Office (EDO) welcomes the opportunity to comment on the Developing a Biodiversity Act for South Australia – Discussion paper. South Australian Government’s commitment to develop a new, stand-alone Biodiversity Act provides an important opportunity to modernise and strengthen the laws aimed at conserving the State’s biodiversity, reverse current trends of decline and restore species populations and ecosystems. It can bring the legal framework in line with important international and domestic commitments to halt extinctions and restore ecosystems, and set clear, whole-of government objectives for the conservation and restoration of biodiversity.
