The EDO has made a submission to the UN High level working group around key priority areas for guidance on net zero and transition plans, including the need for the HLEG to provide clear definition of key terms such as Paris-aligned and science-based, clarification of how and when scope 3 emissions should be included in net zero plans, clarification around the inclusion of exploration activities in emissions reduction plans, clarification of how and when offsets can be used in a net zero plan, and the requirement for HLEG to set clear and credible net zero complaint decarbanisation pathways which address the trajectory of decarbanisation, fossil fuel expansion activities and reliance on not yet developed/scalable/viable or controversial technology such as Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) and blue hydrogen.
