On 3 October 2023, the Department of Industry, Science and Resources released a consultation paper relating to the Future Gas Strategy. The Future Gas Strategy will purportedly provide a medium (to 2035) and long term (to 2050) plan for gas production and consumption in Australia. EDO’s submission addresses: (1) the future of gas in Australia, including proposed decarbonisation pathways in the context of Australia’s and the world’s transition to net zero; (2) the issues with Carbon Capture and Storage technology, which in EDO’s view, is a false solution to the climate crisis; (3) the regulatory reforms that are necessary to support Australia’s transition to net zero.
