Donate now to help power the legal fight against coal

Our lawyers are in court this week to challenge the approval of a massive coal mine expansion in NSW on behalf of Bushfire Survivors for Climate Action. Donate to help power the legal fight against coal for a safe climate future.

Whitehaven Coal was given approval to extend the life of the Narrabri coal mine until 2044 and increase coal production by 82 million tonnes.

With the Independent Planning Commission’s approval, Narrabri Underground will become one of Australia’s highest methane-polluting thermal coal mines.

Methane is a potent and fast-acting greenhouse gas estimated to have a global warming potential 82.5 times higher than carbon dioxide over 20 years.

A reasonable decision-maker would not have privileged short-term profit over the catastrophic harm of burning coal – the single biggest cause of climate change.

That’s why our lawyers are in court to argue that the IPC’s approval of a major new source of climate pollution is legally unreasonable, irrational and illogical.

This case is more than just a court battle.

It’s a major moment in our legal mission to protect our climate and communities from damaging new coal developments and hold the government and industry accountable for their actions.

Your donation provides flexible funding that powers our vital legal work.

Please chip in and help power the legal fight to stop coal destroying our climate.
