EDO is the leading public interest environmental law centre in Australia and the Pacific region. A significant part of our work involves representing clients in court cases that can create lasting benefits for the environment. However, we recognise that the benefits of litigation are accompanied by risk to our clients and EDO, especially in complex and groundbreaking cases.

One way that EDO manages that risk is through the oversight of the EDO Board’s Complex Litigation and Legal Ethics Committee. The Committee is assisted by a pool of external legal professionals who can be called upon at short notice, given decisions about litigation often need to be made on very tight timeframes.

  • Christine Trenorden, former judge, and the former Senior Judge of the Environment, Resources and Development Court in South Australia, who was a member of the foundation management committee of ELCAS (later the EDO of SA) and a former president of NELA.
