There are a range of volunteer opportunities available in the Brisbane office for law students, law graduates and admitted solicitors. You can get involved in our day volunteer program, complete a clinical placement for academic credit, complete the Practical Legal Training component of a GDLP, or join our evening Advice Line program, which operates every Tuesday evening.
How to Apply (law students and graduates):
We look for a demonstrated interest in environment law. Due to the complex nature of the work at EDO, preference will be given to students who have completed environment law, planning law, and administrative law. However, all students are encouraged to apply.
- Applying to the Day volunteer program: Please send us a copy of your resume, cover letter, and academic transcript. Please include a clear description of your availability. We consider applications from people seeking to volunteer 1-2 days per week for a minimum of 12 weeks; 4 days per week for a minimum of five weeks; or 5 days per week for a minimum of 4 weeks.
- Applying to complete a clinical placement for academic credit with the day program: Please contact the convenor of the relevant subject at your law school. You may need to apply directly through them. If you apply directly to us and you intend to seek academic credit, please ensure you make this clear in your application, and inform us if you need to hear back from us by a certain date. If applying directly to us, please send us a copy of your resume, cover letter, and academic transcript. Please include a clear description of your availability.
- Applying to undertake Practical Legal Training: Please send us your resume, cover letter, and academic transcript. Please include a clear description of your availability. We require a commitment of 5 days per week for at least 4 weeks, or 4 days per week for at least 5 weeks.
- Applying to the Evening Advice Line program: Please send us a copy of your resume, cover letter, and academic transcript. Please note that Advice Line operates from 5:30pm-7:30pm every Tuesday. We require a minimum commitment of 12 volunteer shifts either once a week, or once a fortnight.
How to Apply (admitted solicitors with experience in planning and environment law):
If you would like to volunteer your time with the EDO Brisbane office and you are an admitted solicitor with planning and environment law experience, please contact our office with your resume and a description of what you would like to get involved with. The day program and Advice Line programs both welcome applications. Other off-site arrangements may also be possible.

Applications received for our volunteer programs will be kept on file for six months and considered when a place becomes available. Our volunteering program runs all year long. If you are still interested in volunteering with us once six months has passed, please contact us again to let us know you are still interested and send along any updated information you would like us to have.
Please be aware that we only have limited places available, so we are not able to accept all applicants. We receive many more applications for our volunteer program than there are places available.
