Saving the last drop: water scarcity & the law
A one day seminar - March 13th 2008
We are very pleased to report that the seminar has been a
great success. Nearly 200 registrants attended to hear our speakers explain
some of the technical and legal intricacies surrounding the management of water
scarcity.. We extend a huge thank you to all registrants and speakers for contribution
to an interesting and lively discussion on this most critical issue.
Presentations can be downloaded from the seminar website

Government Bill fast tracks approval of the
Penola pulp mill
On the 16 October State Parliament passed special
legislation in relation to the controversial proposal to build a paper pulp
mill near the South East town of Penola
I have advised several opponents of the mill. The
use of special legislation to fast track this
proposal completely bypasses any comprehensive environmental impact
assessment. There are many concerns with the project including water usage, greenhouse
gas emissions and waste disposal which need far greater scrutiny than is
afforded by this retrograde piece of legislation.
