We've moved! Please note our new address: 30 Hardgrave Road, West End Qld 4101. All other contact details remain the same.
The Environmental Defenders Office (Qld) Inc. is a non-profit, non-government community legal centre dedicated to providing legal advice and representation to individuals and community groups working to protect the environment. We are part of a national network of EDOs working to protect the environment in the public interest. EDO Qld has been helping people use the law to protect the environment since 1989.
Some of EDO Qld’s outstanding achievements include:
- Running three successful Federal Court actions under the new Commonwealth legislation (EPBC Act)–an injunction proceeding for breach of the Act and two judicial review actions; and,
- Running several Planning and Environment Court appeals resulting in markedly improved development conditions.
EDO Qld takes an active role in environmental law reform and policy formation. We advocate proactively for law reform as well as contributing as a stakeholder in government consultation processes. EDO Qld has been integral in presenting an environmental viewpoint in the formulation of the Integrated Planning Act 1997, Water Act 2000, and recently important amendments to the Nature Conservation Act 1992 and Vegetation Management Act 1999.
EDO Qld education program helps build the community's skills and knowledge aiming to empower citizens and to facilitate public participation in environmental decision making. We run workshops and produce Fact sheets and monthly Bulletins. If you are interested in hosting a workshop in your region, please contact our office.
EDO Qld is driven and supported by its members. As a non-profit society, the EDO relies on donations to carry out public interest legal work. Our members gain insight to complex environmental issues while helping to influence Queensland's environment and its future in a positive, constructive manner. To join EDO Qld, click here.
EDO Qld receives base funding from the Commonwealth and State Community Legal Service Funding Programs and Queensland EPA project funding, but also relies on donations.
