The EDO and Humane Society challenge "scientific" whaling
The Environmental Defender's Office (NSW) has filed an application in the Federal Court of Australia, on behalf of the Humane Society International, for a case against a Japanese company that routinely slaughters whales in the Australian Whale Sanctuary as part of a so called 'scientific research' program.

A coalition of 19 consumer and environment groups is demanding Australia's energy ministers amend the rules governing the $7 billion-a-year national electricity market to encourage lower greenhouse gas emissions.

Blue Mountains Conservation Society Inc v Director-General of National Parks and Wildlife
The result of a case in which the EDO successfully represented the Blue Mountains Conservation Society Inc in its attempts to prevent filming of a war movie in the Grose Wilderness area of the Blue Mountains National Park gained widespread coverage. Justice Lloyd ruled that the proposed commercial filming of scenes for the war movie “Stealth” in the area was unlawful.
