International policy development
The EDO 's international policy and law reform work focuses on the areas
of climate change and biodiversity, and includes:
- Preparing and assisting NGOs in the region to prepare submissions
to government and international organisations;
- Providing advice to Australian NGOs and partner organisations in
the Pacific working in international law and attending international
negotiations;
- Undertaking reviews of existing and proposed legislation in the region,
drafting advice for new legislation; and
- Publishing papers and delivering presentations to promote the development
of environmental law in the region and internationally.
EDO submissions and policy papers can be found here.
The EDO is a specialist legal centre and its policy work reflects this
status. We do not do campaigning work but we frequently put forward policy
proposals suggesting ways that the law can be improved.
The EDO, as part of the Australian Network of Environmental Defender's
Offices (ANEDO) is a member of the International Union for Conservation
of Nature (IUCN). The IUCN is the world's oldest and largest global environmental
network and a key forum for the development of international environmental
law. For more information about the IUCN's Environmental Law program,
