This seminar will explore how we can tackle climate change in our cities, with a particular focus on the future of the CUB site.

    • Kirsty Ruddock- Principal Solicitor, Environmental Defender's Office (NSW)

  4. The EDO will be in the Federal Court this week on behalf of Humane Society International Inc (HSI). The case is set down for hearing at 10am on Tuesday 18 September. It is 3 years since proceedings were commenced against Kyodo Senpaku Kaisha Ltd (Kyodo), a Japanese whaling company that kills whales in the Australian Whale Sanctuary in Antarctic waters.

HSI is seeking an injunction to restrain Kyodo from hunting whales within Australian waters in breach of the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999. It is still unclear whether Kyodo will appear in Court to defend the application but it is possible for the hearing to proceed in the absence of the respondent.
